Baptism Information
We have regular baptism services for babies, children and adults to signify welcome new people and this is an important part of our welcome to children at the beginning of their Christian life..
What is Baptism about?
In baptism a child or adult is welcomed into the family of the Church, God’s people.
It is within the life of the Church that a child will learn the Christian faith, so we encourage parents to bring their child to Open House, our informal, all-age worship service 2nd & 4th Sundays of the month at 11 a.m.
All Baptism Services contain promises about Christian belief and practice which parents and godparents must make. To ensure these promises are understood, we like to visit the family a couple of times to discuss the meaning of Baptism.
When is the Service held?
On alternate months the Baptism Service is held during Open House. On the other month it is held on a Sunday afternoon.
What now?
If you are thinking of having your child baptised, we would encourage you to come to Open House and meet us all. Alternatively you can contact Marion Tegg (01162673817)
Wedding Information
All who are resident in Birstall or Wanlip are welcome to get married either at St James’ Church or Our Lady & St Nicholas. New regulations mean that if you have good links with these villages, you may also be able to be married locally.
To find out more about the new regulations visit www.yourchurchwedding.org.
The first step, if you wish to make an enquiry, is to contact us. The process then begins with an initial meeting with one of the clergy, to explain what needs to be done and, if appropriate, to book one of our Churches for your wedding.
Beyond this stage, practical details are sorted out via the Parish Office. A list of fees is available, including mandatory items and those which are optional.
After the initial meeting, two further meetings take place with the clergy, to help you to prepare for your wedding. This includes the opportunity to prepare your wedding in a way that best reflects who you are, in terms of style and music. A marriage preparation day is also made available, for those interested.
Weddings are an important part of the ministry of this Parish, and we welcome you to explore the possibility of getting married in one our beautiful historic Churches.
